PELTIER: The “witness” who was “not even actually there.”

Dear Supporters:

Leonard Peltier desperately needs a new campaign manager.

He now has one who is unable to get the facts straight.

In a 4/15/14 “Team Freedom” message entitled “Gaining Perspective,” Peltier Campaign Manager, Indigo Cantor, laments over Peltier’s health, incarceration, etc., and provides the following brilliance for all those wannbes and Peltier hangers-on (Footnote #1)

“Leonard remains in prison after years of proof backing his innocence, and stacks of evidence showing the trials were rigged, the testimony was false, the so called ‘witness’ was not even actually there, and in fact she had NEVER even met Leonard.”

Aside from certainly never reading the entire trial transcript or any of the many appellate decisions, the Campaign Manager is challenged to offer one shred of “proof” of Peltier’s feigned and alleged innocence. Beyond Peltier’s own statements establishing his guilt, begin here and at least read the testimony of those “critical witnesses against Peltier” (Fn.2).

But first, let’s clarify which “witness” Ms. Cantor is referring to. With the detail that this was one who had “NEVER even met Leonard,” then there’s one, and one person only she can be referring to; Myrtle Poor Bear.

This may come as a bit of a shock to Ms. Cantor, but why is it that she doesn’t know that Myrtle Poor Bear never testified against Peltier?

Another attempt at creating facts out of whole cloth or just a deliberate attempt to confuse the uninitiated, those too blind to see or too lazy to do their homework? Maybe a bit of each, or more likely just their everyday coAIMintelpro tactics. (Fn.3)

But can Ms. Cantor answer why Poor Bear never testified even though she was a subpoenaed witness?

Well, there’s a very simple answer; because Peltier’s own attorneys didn’t want her to. That’s right; Peltier’s side did not want her on the witness stand.

Matter of fact (since facts are those pesky little things that get in the way of Peltier myth and feigned innocence), at the beginning of the trial: “”Indeed, defense counsel, anticipating that she would be called as a witness for the government, described her in his opening statement as a “witness whose {F.2d 333} mental imbalance is so gross as to render her testimony unbelievable.”” (Fn. 4)

Did she seem credible in the beginning? Sure, listen to her in Redford’s Incident at Oglala. Were her affidavits used…as only part of the extradition process from Canada? Yes, and the Canadian government concluded, Peltier “…was lawfully extradited to the United States“ (Fn. 5).

Better still. Cantor should stay, along with Harry David Hill. Peltier’s latest sequel (and there have been many) of frustrated and confused “leaders” manifesting the continuing downhill (no pun intended…but if the moccasin fits…) slide of Peltier’s support base. The Department of Justice, the Attorney General and the President can recognize Peltier’s crimes and understand that a free Peltier will heal and accomplish nothing. Peltier, at once a self-proclaimed warrior and “a victim” serve only to show how much he has diminished a proud heritage that he has polluted for his own self-serving and egocentric purposes. Crazy Horse, if he’s watching the Peltier mess, must be disgusted that his name is being tainted by the likes of the coward of Jumping Bull.

PELTIER: SLINGING TWO MESSAGES: And, where's Mr. X?

Dear Supporters:

Peltier rambles on about magazine articles he’s read in the prison TV room equating his confinement and condition to that of the environment, a world order against indigenous peoples and messages of making one’s life count for something. (Footnote #1). Peltier has to do this because he’s offering propaganda to two different audiences. On the one hand those who have little knowledge of who or what Peltier really is but that must be convinced, as he has convinced himself, that all the folklore, bolstered by years of myths and lies are true. He offers himself as the sacrificial lamb for those persecuted minorities that the uninformed are compelled to amend for all the wrongs of the past. You know, Peltier the victim.

Then there’s the other message for those who actually believe Peltier made some meaningful contribution during his otherwise wasted life. This is where he makes again a real-time confession for those who would follow him, no matter what, and over any cliff.

“I want to tell you sincerely this is not an easy place to be. It is a terrible place to be, but when I chose to answer the call along with other Native People, many of us took a vow to stand up even unto death if necessary. Some were shot and killed and their lives were taken immediately. My life has been taken one day at a time. But if I had to do it all over again I would still choose to stand up for my people and your people and our future generations to protect our freedoms and our mother Earth, and in doing that I am honored that you remember me.

Genuinely honest and truthful people never have to say they are being “sincere,” but let’s take him at face value, again, as he plays the role for that other group of dwindling supporters; Peltier the warrior. 

The message here is not subtle and we’ve seen it before. Previously it would appear to have been a slip of the forked tongue but his message is unmistakable (Footnote #2). Peltier took a “vow” and of critical import to all those who see the charlatan for what he really is, that he would “do it all over again.” Let’s ask Anna Mae’s Aquash’s daughters if Peltier was being the “warrior” when he stuck a gun in their mother’s mouth forcing her to admit she was an informant (history has proven she was not). Was that part of the “vow” that Peltier clings to? Or that day at Jumping Bull? He knew he was a fugitive but also that FBI Agents Coler and Williams were looking for someone else, Jimmy Eagle, but that did not stop him and some of the “many of us” from brutally attacking and severely wounding the agents. That Agent Williams tried to surrender made no difference (Footnote #3). That Peltier admitted during his escape, (to the same Anna Mae who was later a victim of AIM paranoia; shot in the head and left in a ditch), that “the … … begged for his life but I shot him anyway.” Brave? Heroic? A warrior? Peltier’s next action, with the others, was to stand over the dead agents, steal their weapons and see the smile from Joe Stuntz when he stole Agent Coler’s FBI jacket from the trunk of the Bureau vehicle. Peltier’s next brave response; “We gotta get out of here.” Peltier and the rest of the cowards of Jumping Bull fled. But, of course, this is all tilted against the string of phony alibis, beginning with the infamous Mr. X and red pickup truck.

Peltier endeavors to address two audiences:

The globally uninformed, mostly European anti-America types (Peltier never sees how much he has been used by many of these groups for their own purposes), those progressive bands who literally don’t have a dog in this fight because they are being misled and disabused that in some perverse fashion Peltier represents all those indigenous cultures. They are incapable of seeing him for what he is, a cold-blooded murderer.

The other faction, the diehards, the sycophants, the wannabes, the users and abusers of the latest cultural fad hang on enjoying some vicarious thrill at inmate #89637-132’s expense. One inescapable reality is that the older generation Native America understands the damage Peltier and AIM did to their collective recent history.

Postscript: Mr. X, the movie: Incident at Oglala, what happened?

The NPPA has beaten this topic like a cheap drum for many years. Peltier’s first and longest standing phony alibi was that someone they knew (Mr. X) killed the agents and drove off in the infamous red pickup. We would point to the many years of airing the cameo appearance of the hooded killer in Redford’s mythumentary “Incident at Oglala” where Robideau, in great detail, describes what happened and in the next scene Peltier preens “This story is true but I can’t and will not say anything about it” (Footnote #4). Yet they (the LPDC, LPDOC, etc.) played the film ad nauseam like it really portrayed Peltier’s innocence.

Yet, under another new leadership, Redford’s masterpiece is gone. Vanished in a cloud of…oops, what happened here? A Google search for “Leonard Peltier” lists many references. The first is Wikipedia (largely inaccurate and slanted and not worth the effort to correct), then freeleonard.org (dated now, but courtesy of former Peltier supporter, Attorney Michael Kuzma, who was able to put the final nail in the Mr. X. coffin (Footnote #5), then third, The NoParolePeltierAssociation.com  website, and then fourth, according to a footnote on leonardpeltier.info “There is only one official website for Leonard Peltier and his freedom campaign, and this is it, join the fight.”

Have to assume then that all the other supporting websites and references are persona non grata, a glaring example of how many over the years have come, and gone, as most realized they attached their good will and fortune to a fraudulent falling star (and let’s not even revisit the “charitable donations” scams).

In any case, on leaonardpeltier.info, a search for “Incident” turned up windows that when clicked on presented the viewer, not with the film, but with this tidbit:

“This video contains content from Lionsgate and Miramax, one or more of whom have blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.”

“Your country?” The United States of America? This is a big deal.

For years they (Peltier’s morphing inner circle) have been playing and touting the film (warts, flaws and all) like it was the Peltier Bible come to the silver screen.  

This has to be a terrible blow to Peltier and the entourage to be dissed by the Hollywood crowd, no doubt accompanied with attorney letters calling for them to “cease and desist.” Not to worry though, the DVD is still available on Amazon (only one left at last check) and illegally in various corners of the Internet. (Maybe more letters to Lionsgate and Miramax are in order so they can further protect their copyright.)

The point is the film stands as a conspicuous illustration of the lies surrounding Peltier and his discredited alibi. No one can or will ever remove the Mr. X segments from the film, nor will Matthiessen (who had his own strong doubts about Robideau and this story), remove it from “In the Spirit of Crazy Horse,” and certainly future filmmaking efforts will leave the Mr. X/red pickup out completely, not coincidentally like Peltier did in his own book, “Prison Writings.”

As Peltier said in this latest Spring Statement, “I am honored that you remember me.”

But don’t flatter yourself to be honored Leonard because there are many more who will and do remember…

PELTIER: WHAT HE'S REALLY TRYING TO SAY...

Dear Supporters:

As he often does, Peltier repeats the expression, “I guess what I’m trying to say is.” The February 6^th public statement is no exception.

(February 6^th being the anniversary of his arrest by the RCMP in Canada and the beginning of his incarceration, interrupted only by his armed escape from Lompoc penitentiary in July 1979.  Although, while he usually does mention the February 6^th date, oddly, this time he didn’t, which further supports the premise described below.)

Quite often these public statements are passably written, others not so, and it’s apparent when an LPDOC ghostwriter is at work or when one was actually written by Peltier. This one’s Peltier’s.

Peltier wanders aimlessly through random matters putting voice to his somewhat limited knowledge and views of technology, corporations, world strife and religious conflicts while deliberately avoiding issues like global terrorism. Instead he offers, “I guess what I’m trying to say...that the average person here in America has no reason to quarrel with any person in another land for religious reasons.” Avoiding, of course, the obvious, that a fairly large number of those people have vowed to destroy America and its democratic allies (and at times their own people as well) with suicide bombings killing innocent civilians all in the name of a God, and a Fatwa against the Infidels to find glory and virgins in the afterlife. It’s a sick reality of life we all have to deal with.

Peltier offers deliberate distractions, so far removed from reality it’s as if he believes that we can’t remember a collapse of his support network that occurred only a matter of weeks ago, or certainly, the events of June 26, 1975, including all the lies and fabrications that followed.

“The people I have gathered around me are people I know and trust. They are my voice, and I want that to be respected.”  The reality though is they don’t stick around all that long—it doesn’t take much for the believers to be disheartened that their cause célèbre is a bona fide fraud, an overbearing, egocentric dolt and that the myth and folklore have all the permanence of breath on a mirror. They never last because once the curtain is pulled back the wizard’s  charade is laid bare. And the rationale is evident through  his very own words, “and I want that to be respected.” Understand that directive; “I want”? What he’s saying is—do it my way or I’ll find others who won’t ask the tough questions and will follow my demands.

Even Peltier should be troubled at how far his fortunes have tumbled now that the “new International” Leonard Peltier Defense Committee, Lake Mary, Florida is housed in Suite 160; a rent-by-the-hour conference room (Footnote #1). But more so with the default setting that selected Henry David Hill as the titular Director who has more AIM history and baggage than Samsonite. But worse yet, the jury is still very much out whether HDH was working both sides of the AIM Tepee, being at once a staunch appearing diehard Aimster (a believer) and an agent provocateur (as they like to label those who don’t tow the party line or may have crossed over to the other side.) (Fn #2 ) 

“…defending freedom and justice must be done in every generation.” Really? Is that what it was? Let’s ask the families of Anna Mae Aquash, Jack Coler, Ron Williams and Perry Ray Robinson whether they were victims of freedom and justice. The vast majority of the older generation of Native America has no difficulty understanding the turmoil and bloodshed left behind in AIM’s wake and that collectively—Peltier counted among the most prominent—contributed nothing to their culture or collective existence.

Peltier tries to offer a fact or two but then adulterates it in typical fashion (not unlike his twenty-year fable that Mr. X killed the agents), stating, “America has more people in prison than all the rest of the world put together.” Not really. Violent crime has steadily decreased over the past twenty years. (Perhaps attesting to the fact that felons like Peltier remain incarcerated.) Although, per capita, America’s incarceration rate is high, it is not more “than all the rest of the world put together,” but actually a quarter of that. But look at some of those with low rates. There are too many countries where there is no due process at all. If there is a trial, it’s short and sweet and the accused taken out back and shot or beheaded, or sent to gulags or labor camps where there is no accounting at all. Or, they simply disappear.  Criminality in many corners of the world results in death, not incarceration.  There are far too many factors; social, legal, cultural, geographical, statutory requirements, sentencing guidelines, etc., for Peltier to make such a sweeping statement as if it were accurate, but in Peltier’s case, receiving consecutive life sentences for murder and seven additional years for armed escape remains appropriate for both sentencing and incarceration.

What Peltier is really saying is, “Look-over-here,” then, “Hey, look-over-there,” fostering a deliberate distraction from the real reason he sends out these rambling messages to ignore and forget the past and why he actually sits in a cell in Coleman, Florida. He doesn’t want to equate modern-day terrorism with that perpetrated by himself and other AIM cowards at Jumping Bull that June day. It’s a common thread and tactic of coAIMintelpro to attempt to keep everyone’s eye off the ball (Fn #3).

“I sincerely hope at this time next year I can be at one of these meetings with you and we can have a good time together and until then…give one another a good hug for me.”

Hugs? From Peltier? Best keep your women and children in a safe place. According to Peltier confidant, comrade and co-conspirator, the late Bob Robideau, there is more than just hugging going on in Peltier’s world.

No one is buying the brave warrior fighting for his people, protecting women and children scam anymore. The myth and folklore have spoiled and rotted from long exposure to sunlight and truth. Everyone from the President on down can see through the lies, false alibis and fabrications that are a hallmark of Peltier’s attempt to legitimize himself as he pollutes a proud native history by pretending to be something he never was, and never will be, a brave warrior (Fn #4). Clemency and forgiveness are not elements that balance cowardly and multiple murderous acts. A free Peltier will heal no historical wounds or promote reconciliation, but only legitimize AIM’s lawless  enterprise and Peltier’s criminality.

Perhaps one day Peltier may have the opportunity to be on the outside again, but it won’t be anytime soon nor will there be any guarantees on how he gets there.

Dear Professor Anaya:
 
Please allow me to respond to your recent contact with Leonard Peltier and the press release describing your visit.

The press release stated, “Every piece of evidence to convict Mr. Peltier has been since proven false.” This statement is fatally flawed.

 

As you no doubt understand, the Peltier matter has been examined—under the proverbial microscope—for nearly four decades and has withstood every legal test. There have been no Constitutional violations, otherwise there would be no discussion regarding Leonard Peltier today.

As a Harvard educated attorney, and given your commendable accomplishments in support of Indigenous peoples, the facts and details of Peltier’s conviction and appeals should be a critical priority. Going beyond the myth and folklore that has surrounded Peltier, fabrications that have adulterated what really happened that June day, is crucial to understanding his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The facts are clear and convincing for those who care to examine the essential details of his conviction.

Beyond his conviction, Peltier himself has reinforced his actual guilt beyond a moral certainty. An innocent man would not have offered many false alibis; for instance, the two-decade-long pretext that a phantom Mr. X killed the agents, a claim disavowed by one of those personally involved and as late as last year by one of his own attorneys.

The overwhelming majority of Native Americans, especially the older generation, recognize that AIM’s activities during the seventies and beyond contributed nothing to the betterment of the Native American experience.

AIM’s sordid history of greed, destruction and manipulation is self-evident and common knowledge. This includes those AIM members and Leonard Peltier’s criminal actions at Jumping Bull that infamous day.

Many erroneously consider Peltier a political prisoner. If that were so then the events of June 26, 1975 would have, by necessity, assumed an entirely different meaning. Agents’ Coler and Williams were attacked, gravely wounded and then murdered.  Or, as if some suggest this was an act of Political defiance by Peltier and other AIM members, then instead it would have been a deliberate ambush and an assassination. The facts do not support that premise. It was solely the act of cowardly criminals.

As someone with your experience, how do we reconcile Peltier as a political prisoner and allegedly innocent of the crimes that put him in Coleman, when he had this to say about what happened at Jumping Bull:

 “I seen Joe when he pulled it out of the trunk and I looked at him when he put it on, and he gave me a smile,” Leonard remembers. “I didn’t think nothing of it at the time; all I could think of was, we got to get out of here.” (Spirit of Crazy Horse, P.552).

So picture this if you will, Joe Stuntz takes Agent Coler’s FBI jacket from the trunk of his Bureau vehicle, puts it on, and gives Peltier a smile. Meanwhile, at their feet are too dead human beings who were first attacked and mortally wounded and lay there with their faces destroyed as Peltier and the others ransacked the vehicles and stole the agents’ weapons.

Peltier needs not be remorseful about his crimes but he has gone much further.  Not taking his statement out of context, he said, “I never thought my commitment would mean sacrificing like this, but I was willing to do so nonetheless. And Really, if necessary, I’d do it all over again because it was the right thing to do. (Public statement February 6, 2010.) And there is much more.
 

Peltier, and those who support him, have succeeded in creating the myth of a brave warrior fighting for his people when the exact opposite is true. He has hijacked and diminished an otherwise proud Native history and culture for his own personal aggrandizement and self-interest.

I would welcome the opportunity to further discuss the Peltier matter with you.

 

There are many deserving of leniency and consideration; Leonard Peltier is not one of them.

SA Jack R. Coler; January 12, 1947...Rest In Peace

Dear Supporters:

There is no way of knowing with absolute certainty how Jack’s life would have turned out.

We do, however, know that what he was in life is an indication of what that future would have been. Jack was a devoted husband, father and family man, a professional in uniform with the LAPD and a consummate, professional agent. There would have been many good things and wonderful times in his future, retirement, perhaps a post-retirement career and now enjoying grandchildren. But instead, at Sun Valley last summer we honored his Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity, and sacrifice in the line of duty. He can rest in peace knowing that there are many who will never forget.

Peltier’s dwindling network, as described previously, has crumbled again. http://wwwnoparolepeltiercom-justice.blogspot.com/. However, this latest event may be an omen that his days are indeed numbered. Not even the most intransigent supporters who have bought into the fabrications, myth and folklore, (a charitable way of reminding everyone of Peltier’s incessant torrent of lies and fabrications) remain for long, as he forces those away with his persistently corrupt and bullying demeanor. His website remains dormant as he tries to grasp onto every excuse imaginable to divert attention from the truth. Peltier’s cell is shrinking as his hallucinations of clemency, or any leniency for his unconscionable crimes, evaporate.

Peltier sought to transcend and redeem an otherwise meaningless life. One day he’s an alienated and insignificant AIM hanger-on, gofer and thug enforcer, the next, June 26, 1975 he joined the annals of infamy with all that witnesses the darker side of humanity. He thus became a cowardly attacker and broker of cold-blooded murder worthy of nothing more than disdain while his very existence defiles an otherwise proud Native heritage.

Peltier can pass each day contemplating his ignorance, arrogance and misdeeds, and ponder with what little time he has left, to consider whether his actions that June day should have been different and avoiding four decades behind bars and a completely wasted life.

PELTIER UPDATE: BREAKING CAMP, MANDELA & PROOF OF LIES

Dear Supporters:

Breaking camp: Once again the LPDOC is facing internal strife and the latest leader to abandon ship, Dorothy Ninham, and Peltier himself provide some telling details.  In each statement it is important to focus on those key words and connect the dots to understand what’s really happening and why every two or three years there’s a turnover in the Peltier camp. For a brief review of how ugly it became at times, please see (Footnote #1).

Ninham states “From a business standpoint, it is good policy to replace managers every three years just to keep ideas fresh and so it is that David Hill will guide the new freedom campaign.”  This in effect removes the money-laundering scheme perpetuated by Wind Chases the Sun, Inc, in DePere, Wisconsin. We’ll have to see if David Hill, who has a trunk-full of his own AIM history and baggage tries to wrap it in some other way that the IRS will accept. Remembering, after all, Peltier is not a charity case. Never was, never will be.

So there it is; Peltier, Inc.

It’s a business packaged with folklore and falsehoods that the unsuspecting buy into (no pun intended) without shining some direct light on the facts. Has anyone ever seen where all those allegedly tax deductible donations have gone? No, they haven’t and never will. It remains Peltier’s dirty little secret and no amount of dares have forced him to come clean to his dwindling supporters (Fn #2).

Ninham and those before her have had enough of the Coleman inmates’ bullying  do-it-my-way-or-else fractured ego. Peltier was an AIM thug before he became an AIM assassin and nothing has changed. She gracefully sugarcoats it with, “This is Leonard’s wish and we respect his right to choose the people who will be surrounding him.”  Which is the polite way of saying she’s had enough of Peltier.

Peltier’s explanation revealed more with a predictable understatement  “…those of you who are familiar with the organization, there have been changes every two or three years…,” but as he segues back and forth with coAIMintelpro style

(Fn #3) diversions, trying to convince that “This isn’t all about me,” clarifies that it really is; “We don’t have enough money to always fund the most needed lawyers (…who serve pro bono by the way…) and legal workers or secretaries or web managers or whatever.” The word, “whatever,” should raise some eyebrows because that slip of the tongue, (which has happened before and is actual proof—unlike  many LPDOC cyberspace launched missives—really did come from Peltier himself), pulls back the curtain just a bit and hints that those “tax-deductible” dollars have some other hidden and probably illicit purpose.

But Peltier finally gets to the point of this latest dustup in Peltierland. “So I would like to sincerely encourage you to try and mend your differences…(followed by yet another diversion). Ninham implied nothing of the sort but now Peltier is admitting that there was trouble in paradise. Why else would he ask for some reconciliation amongst his loyal network leaders?

But then Peltier does come down to the a final admission, “…but the future of my involvement is very important to me and when you get to be 69 years old, one day could be a lifetime.” And, then more diversions to keep the eyes of those watching off the proverbial ball. It’s all about him, pure and simple. The pretense of care for his people is part of the scam, an element of the pretense that all he really needs is for you to write a check.

Nelson Mandela: Peltier rambled about the passing of Nelson Mandela, but in a few recent news clips of interviews a couple of key quotes are worth noting; Mandela said he “reflected on (his) mistakes,” and that he engaged in “authentic acts of humility.”  There is one difference with absolute certainty, Peltier is no Mandela and any effort to equate the two is folly.

Proof of lies: Anyone interested in the Peltier experience need not travel far to run headlong into a hedge grove of lies. One can start with the link on the NPPA’s home page that takes them to Peltier’s website, where, among other things are two flagrant examples of Peltier’s penchant to lie and the LPDOC’s inability to recognize that they are helping make the case for Peltier’s guilt even stronger.

Mr. X, anyone? This two decade long lie and one of Peltier’s early and many alibis has been proven to be false in 1995  by one who was at Jumping Bull that fateful day, Dino Butler. And, along with other additional proof, most recently by Peltier’s own attorney just this year. (Fn #4)

Yet here we have the film “Incident at Oglala” played, annoyingly without prompting, and the dated and slanted 1991 Steve Kroft, 60 Minutes interview. In both a masked and graveled voiced Mr. X claims credit for driving the red pickup and first engaging and then killing the agents. This isn’t new news to anyone, either for or against Peltier and common knowledge that Peltierites desperately try to bury.

In “Incident” Robideau goes into great detail about what he saw and Peltier himself follows with, “This story is true.”  Well, it wasn’t.

With Kroft, Peltier admits “Yes, I fired at them,” but in his autobiography, Prison Writings (1999) claims “I fired off a few shots above their heads, not trying to hit anything or anyone (p.125)” Ooops…must have forgotten what he told Kroft while he also failed to mention anything about Mr. X or the infamous red pickup in the book. Wonder why that happened?

The reason these two pieces are on the Peltier homepage is obvious, self-perpetuating propaganda because there is criticism of the FBI and Peltier’s conviction. They both, however, in an awkward sort of way, portray and augment the myth and folklore Peltier has succeeded in wrapping himself in as he tries to transform the murderer into a warrior and the Native into a perpetual victim. He plays both cards from the bottom of several marked decks.

Actually, they lay bare the blatant hypocrisy of Peltier’s fabrications (i.e., deliberate lies), but only those looking closely can see the trees and the forest.

There it is, in living color on Peltier’s home page, one of the key people in the entire legal process of his last nearly four decades behind bars, as Kroft asks Federal, Court of Appeals Judge, Heaney, the sixty-four dollar question.  (It is my personal opinion that this live interview was not scripted and based on the bias of the entire 60 Minutes program—taken wholly from the then Peltier playbook—that Kroft was taken aback by Judge Heaney’s response, like the lawyer questioning a witness who should never ask a question unless he already knows the answer.)

Kroft: “Do you believe he got a fair trial?”
Judge Heaney: “I believe he got a fair trial.”

Case closed.

PELTIER: SIXTY-NINE, HISTORY & UPDATES

In a September 9^th statement, Peltier makes some valid points about indigenous rights (claiming now to be the World’s humanitarian) but then spoils it through his narcissism by saying, “I am a prime example of what happens when you try to stand up and protect elders…” Peltier is always confused between whether he’s a brave warrior shooting severely wounded humans in the face, or a poor Native victim. Peltier’s understanding of his own peoples’ history is as skewed as ever, “We as Indigenous people have always supported each other. We have a history of Native trade between Nations in all four directions.” Leonard better recheck history because there was plenty of  Indian on Indian violence and domination long before and after the white Europeans started moving West.

Peltier couldn’t possibly say this with a straight face; “We need Indigenous attorneys who aren’t motivated  by money to represent the overwhelming number of Natives who are locked in prison cells.” After the taxpayers paid for a load of lawyers for his trial and appeals, he’s gone through more pro bono attorneys than he can probably count or recall. Each had eventually come to the conclusion that the convicted murder remains a remorseless fraud built on a foundation of self-serving folklore wrapped in a moth-eaten blanket of myth and counterfeit benevolence. Peltier’s confession: Public statement February 6, 2010

There has been renewed discussion about NPPA claims that Peltier confessed to killing Agents Coler and Williams. http://noparolepeltier.com/debate.html#confession

Let’s explain this so even the lowest common denominator can understand. Peltier talks about his “commitment.” He references Joe Stuntz. Stuntz was at Jumping Bull, along with Peltier. He mentions Buddy Lamont anecdotally. Lamont was at WKII, Peltier was not. But he’s very clear about “I’d do it all over again…” The key here being “all.” He made no exclusions. He didn’t say, “some things,” or “certain things,” and made no qualifications or exceptions. By “all” he includes everything he was committed to and involved in, and that means…Jumping Bull. Its called context. Peltier wasn’t thinking and stepped into it big time with this statement. This was after his Lewisburg hearing and if he ever has another parole hearing you can bet some fake wampum that he’ll be hearing that statement again. 

As for all the allegedly tax-deductible donations (they’re not), and fundraising (the “Bring Leonard Home in 2012” NYC concert was a financial flop), for attorneys fees to somehow translate this into convincing the President to consider clemency; it’s not going to happen. The President will quickly recognize the unrepentant Peltier for what he really is, a huckster who hijacked an otherwise proud Native American history for his own entertainment, and a remorseless killer who will serve the remainder of his proper sentences.

As long as rivers flow and grasses grow Peltier will remain the unrepentant liar he is. His own words spoken over the decades verify such is the case.

Peltier to Richard LaCourse:
 “All I can say is this, people on my reservation know about what happened that day. They know who fought and they knew who was courageous and they know who was the hero. They know I fought very, very hard that day. Although I didn’t kill nobody, I fought very, very hard. I was not afraid. I stood there (unintelligible) the enemy as a warrior should when he’s victorious. I wasn’t afraid. I was not afraid any of those times. I can’t get up here and say, tell the world I was a courageous warrior. Especially in this system, I can’t tell the system I was shooting at their police officers that were trying to arrest me. They’ll hold that against me. I’ve got to be careful about that stuff.”

Here above he admits he was shooting at Williams and Coler,  and in typical fashion can’t resist the opportunity to flatter himself in saying he fought hard as a hero and courageous warrior-elsewhere he has said he was merely shooting in a direction where no one could be “hit,  hurt,  killed.” And he’s so ignorant he says he can’t say something and then does.

Note also his statement about “police officers that were trying to arrest me”-that is the key to everything that transpired as Peltier believed they were coming for him regarding a Wisconsin warrant.

Peltier to Darrin Wood:
 “For me it’s something very heroic that he’s done. He’s putting himself at risk, seriously at risk. I will say this: that this brother is a very strong brother. He is not a cold-blooded murderer. He is not a bad person, he’s very kind, generous and sincere.”

The choice of words are bizarre even by Peltier standards-he is saying that the non existent Mr. X  despite shooting two wounded men in the face at point blank range is a “kind” person.

To Mark Potter:

Mark Potter:  So with those cars down there, at the center of all that,  you, as a leader,  never,  never went down to see what was going on?

And after being told Robideau placed him there Peltier had the following to say. 
“Yeah, Well, shoot. I mean I, I. Yeah, I guess, you know. I knew they were dead, they got killed; I heard they got killed. I knew they got killed.”

And from Mathiessen’s  In The Spirit of Crazy Horse”

“I felt like we were all dead,” he said to somebody. “I was feeling crazy because there were still women and children up there in June’s cabin. When Joe came down there to the cars, I said to him, I think they’re gonna kill everyone here. That’s what I told him, this is the day to be a warrior.”

This admission that he was present at the cars predates his initial attempted denial to Potter-guess he must have forgotten it.

Maybe a Peltierite would care to explain the obvious contradictions?

Like I said before-if Peltier were Pinochhio a separate cell would have to be provided to accommodate his nose.

SA Ronald A. Williams; July 30, 1947 - June 26, 1975; Rest in Peace

Ron would be turning sixty-six and it is not known how the rest of his life may have turned out; perhaps a long and rewarding career in the Bureau, or as he mentioned to close friends, an interest in law school and maybe a legal career as a prosecutor or Assistant U.S. Attorney. In either instance, based on all we know about his talents, intelligence, dedication and personality, it would have been successful. Perhaps now with grandchildren and looking forward to enjoying his later years, except for his chance encounter with Leonard Peltier and other American Indian Movement prairie dogs

There is no doubt that Jack and Ron were taken by surprise, ambushed, if not deliberately a set up, then an ambush nonetheless.

The kindest words Peltier’s biographer, Peter Matthiessen, could muster in six hundred-plus pages amounted to “in a few wild minutes, Coler had received that shocking wound, and Williams could not or would not desert him – the details, the degree of bravery, the precise order of events are lost.”

In predictable Peltier fashion Matthiessen states,  “Williams could not…,” implying a denigration of Ron’s character that maybe he would have if he had not been caught in a deadly crossfire, which only further validates what happened that June day. Ron’s bravery was unmistakable, severely wounded he made his way to Jack to use his shirt as a tourniquet in an effort to save his life.

Although, and we also know this from Matthiessen’s many interviews of those AIM greasy-grass gangsters involved that day, that Ron first waived his shirt “as a white flag in sign of surrender.” Why else would Matthiessen even write this unless those AIM perpetrators described it for him; perhaps even Peltier himself told the true story that way.

We know how it ended; two brave men, severely wounded, surrounded, and then murdered by a pack of AIM cowards.

But Matthiessen, flawed again, claims, “the details…the precise order of events are lost.” Lost? Not hardly. Those details are precisely known by Peltier and the others.

But the “degree of bravery “ is not up for debate, Jack and Ron fought back as best they could under a barrage of rifle fire from two directions. Ron’s valiant effort to aid and save his mortally wounded partner is unquestioned.

PELTIER UPDATE: Worthington, Canada, Columbus Day, Belgium, and ...Users...

October 27, 2012, The Toronto Sun, by Peter Worthington:

“The Americans, god bless them, are consumed with the concept of “freedom” — as are people who come from countries where individual liberties are repressed.” “But the world’s oppressed people, refugees, and those in danger in their birth countries, invariably look to America as salvation for their despair. It’s where they seek to go to for the sake of freedom.” “Without America being what it is, our world today would be a more perilous and dangerous place.” “I forget who said it, but United States is the kindliest country in the world.” “Can anyone imagine a world in which there is no United States?”

The Peter Worthington article was entitled “Why the U.S. Matters: Worthington.” Leading this editorial was a photo of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan standing in front of their campaign aircraft and included “…what happens in the U.S., and what that government decides, affects the world and can be of incalculable importance to free countries like Canada.” It seemingly was an endorsement of the Republican candidates and certainly America. Thank you for that.
So what’s the point you ask? What does this have to do with Peltier, Jumping Bull and the murder of two FBI agents?

Well, a lot actually. Not the least of which is that Canada, our longtime democratic ally and neighbor to the North, with their small but highly skilled and professional military has been side-by-side with American armed forces in every major conflict for freedom and democracy for many decades, especially those perilous days on the Normandy beaches and of late, Afghanistan.

But Peter also said in the same editorial “I think tolerance towards extremists that advocate terrorism is a form of insanity that threatens the 21st century.” He’s certainly astute on that point. But what of the 20th century extremists, homegrown in the U.S., that under the guise of helping correct wrongs of the past created more anguish for their people and accomplished nothing in the process except death and destruction and a sham of ideology? Yes, we’re talking about the American Indian Movement (AIM), and Leonard Peltier.

On the LPDOC website recently was another Worthington article entitled “Leonard Peltier’s Sole Crime Was His Heritage,” within which he provided some patently erroneous information.

So how can someone who apparently has such a broad worldview be so myopic and fact-less when it comes to one homicidal U.S. inmate? Peter regurgitates the Peltier boilerplate without one ounce of proof to support his, or Peltier’s claims.

It would take some time to respond to all of Peter’s claims so we’ll just debunk a few of them, a few that a serious journalist could verify himself if the blinders and the uncomfortable and unprofessional adoration were removed.

“60 Indians were murdered – with no arrests or convictions.” Try this for starters: http://www.noparolepeltier.com/response.html#7, and by the way…there’s always Anna Mae Aquash for your consideration. A murder by AIM. (“which was once a more radical rival to the NCAI” you say. Really? Just radical? Discuss that concept with her family or the two in prison for her murder. Actually, the jury may still be out on that as well, considering the implications of Peltier putting a gun in her mouth and rampant suspicions that he at least had some tacit involvement).

Regarding Peltier’s extradition from Canada:

“Myrtle Poor Bear testified she witnessed Peltier shooting the agents…” Well, would it come as a surprise that at Peltier’s trial: “Indeed, defense counsel, anticipating that she would be called as a witness for the government, described her in his opening statement as a ‘witness whose {F.2d 333} mental imbalance is so gross as to render her testimony unbelievable.’” (http://www.noparolepeltier.com/585.html, II.B.2.b.i, if you want to look it up.) So if she was that critical why were Peltier’s attorneys so afraid of her testimony?

But the final word comes from Peter’s own government:

In a four page letter dated October 12, 1999 (not ancient history, but recent to the Peltier debate), from A. Anne McLellan, Canadian Minister of Justice to U.S. Attorney General, Janet Reno, who reviewed the entire Peltier extradition matter stated:

"As I indicated above, I have concluded that Mr. Peltier was lawfully extradited to the United States." "The record demonstrates that the case was fully considered by the courts and by the then Minister of Justice. There is no evidence that has come to light since then that would justify a conclusion that the decisions of the Canadian courts and Minister of Justice should be interfered with." It’s amusing, ironically really, that Peter references the acquittal of Butler and Robideau on the basis of “self-defense.” So, essentially ambushing two federal agents and then blowing their faces away wouldn’t be viewed as murder in Canada? I think it would. And have you followed at all how deeply Robideau placed himself and Peltier at the scene of the crime? Geesh, please do some serious research. Mr. X would be a great place to start and while you’re at it, it was Robideau who said, “They died like worms.” And he ought to know, because, by his own admission, he was there. I suspect if someone said that about dead Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officers, it would not be well received up North either.

Visiting Peltier three times in Leavenworth was a cute anecdote; guess the Kokopelli charmed you on that one. I visited him in Lewisburg, but it was a more serious occasion telling the parole-hearing officer all the things that Peltier has said over the years. I was neither charmed nor impressed by the bloated felon sitting next to me.

And the charitable acts, model prisoner, Nobel Peace Prize nominee is just so much hogwash; if you have that expression up there. Take a look at where some of his awards and charitable activities really come from:

Although, Peter does have a sense of humor by pointing out Peltier’s alleged anguish when learning his recent cellmate was a serial killer. “Peltier was genuinely shocked that he’d have to share a cell with someone who was a dangerous criminal.” Really? That is funny. We heard of a compelling different anguish that the serial killer didn’t want to be stuck in a cell with a phony, self-possessed, narcissistic, make-believe Indian warrior Chief wannabe. That’s being facetious, of course, but probably not too terribly off the mark. Peltier only has two murders to his credit. That we know of.

Summing it up Peter puts this fine-point on the Peltier matter, that he was an activist who got caught up in the politics of the times and has been a scapegoat.

So, setting the Peltier mythology aside for a moment and that fundamental jurisprudence both here and North of the 49th Parallel is based upon the presumption of innocence, please point to anything that supports Peltier’s claims, and yours, that he’s innocent.

Columbus Day: Peltier’s Columbus Day message was repeated boilerplate with more of an edge this year. Hard to argue with the concept that celebrating Columbus Day (I would assume by the vast majority of Native Americans) rings hollow for the devastation that followed while the number of Europeans (and their descendants) increased as the relentless Manifest Destiny pushed westward unabated. Calling it Indigenous Day may not be all that bad of an idea (except certainly to Italian Americans). And that’s where most of the problem rests; too much classifying and categorizing…but we’re a long way from the melting pot and getting, it seems, further away all the time. But Peltier, true-to-form wants to take some credit for the change with, “…if in some way my incarceration and sacrifices for our People…” Afraid not, your people are the ones in the adjacent cells, in the chow hall and in the yard, the fellow ‘dangerous criminals’ you have lived with for many years now. Those other people, Native Americans, you failed miserably.

Means: Peltier’s rather short epitaph for the recent death of AIM founder Russell Means was cautiously worded, walking a fine line between all that is known about him; the somewhat good things along with the secrets and hypocrisy. You “couldn’t ignore him,” Peltier says, and he was “an inspiration for all of us younger guys at the time.” Apparently he was a lot smarter too, living in both worlds, conniving one and being enriched by the other, and not spending his entire life behind bars. Peltier says, “so I know I will see Russell again.” Maybe, but not so fast: Before either of you face each other The Creator will have a few questions. And when that time comes, all the excuses, alibis, fabrications and outright lies won’t pass that test. It may be a cold day in Hell indeed before Peltier and Means may meet face to face again. Besides, just how many times did Russell visit Leonard in prison anyway?

Belgium: There’s a simple answer to this question. “Good News from Belgium,” was a recent LPDOC post proclaiming support by a parliamentarian for Peltier adding that “recognizing the fact that the American justice system has structural shortcomings.” Really? Belgium folded to the Nazi onslaught in 18 days but was liberated and allowed to return to freedom by the United States. That doesn’t minimize the bravery of the many Belgium’s who fought gallantly alongside the Americans, British and (for Peter), the Canadians. Belgium’s government and society is segmented along cultural, language, and strong religious divides, but no matter how any Belgian’s may feel or are mistaken and confused about Peltier facts, the short answer is, Who Cares? It’s simply none of their business and all it does is make Peltier think he’s more important than he will ever be. (Elsie, you still out there?)

The Users; Peltier has been plagued with supporters; genuine believers, those who have no clue about the facts beyond what Peltier has spoon-fed them, those who hate the United States (but still remain here nonetheless…ever wonder why no one is trying to escape from America) and use him as just another anti-American tool (the Jericho Movement is a prime example), and those who, without latching onto Peltier’s notoriety, would remain what they are, losers. Those who have joined the club, brandish their membership cards and have neither the facts nor a clue about what Peltier is all about; those who have floated around and accomplished nothing. They pretend they are something that they never have been; like marginal musicians who hit the big venues like a Tap room, guitar shops and cigar bars and are largely ignored as the chatter continues in the foreground. Those who adopt Indian sounding names believing that in some way it will connect them to the make-believe Peltier world and increase their own failing existence. Like those who try to make a tribute to the famous and only embarrass themselves. But these are the good cronies. The kind Peltier cherishes because they are cut of the same cloth; mindless foul-mouthed followers of the rhetoric that won’t be confused by the facts. These are the Peltier supporters who turn-off the ones who just might consider coming into the Peltier camp, but witnessing these antics instead head for the flap to get out of the tent.

All this though is a benefit for Peltier as it just makes other inmates envious. Those souls spending minutes that pass like hours with no end in sight, watching Peltier pick up his bundle during mail call. But even with that false adoration from the outside, the concrete walls aren’t getting any further apart.

We’ll leave Peltier with this to contemplate, his very own words as it turns out: “There’s an ever-present background chorus of shouts and yells and calls, demented babblings, crazed screams, ghostlike laughter. Maybe one day you realize one of those voices is your own, and then you really begin to worry.”

Listen, and be worried.
